Round 1 – 1-May 16th 2021

 

Lakeside v Muirfield @ Lakeside

The team got off to a successful start with a 5-3 win at home, through in 3 of the matches the momentum swung both ways, and crucial holes wins Lakeside was able to secure a victory that looks more comfortable then it really was and currently share first place in the section with Glenmore who won 6 ½ to 1 ½  at home to Windsor.

 

No 8       Paul Dawson v Nigel Black           Lost 5/3

Paul got off to a slow start and lost 3 of the first four holes and was never able to recover.

 

No 7       Greg Fish v Graeme Matthews  Won 6/4

Greg had control of this game all day and ran out a easy winner

 

No 6       Steve Spink v Ian Bamford                           Lost 1 down

A hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match Steve missed a critical putt on the 16 to go 1 down and was unable to win one of the remaining holes.

 

No 5       Phil Lockyer v Daeyoun Lim                         Won 1 up

The game was nip and tuck all day but Phil was able to hold on to a slender lead on the back 9 for a hard fought win.

 

No 4       Stephen Huffadine v Michael Ebsworth                 Lost 1 down

Another hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Stephen played the 17th hole poorly and was unable to recover.

 

No 3      Ivo Da Silva v Peter Fancus                          Won 7/6

Ivo got off to a sensational start and was 5 up after 5 holes and never gave his opponent an inch running out an easy winner.

 

No 2       Ricky Timms v Glenn Willard                     Won 8/6

Ricky opponent was unable to compete with Ricky length of the tee and he took control of the game from the outset and ran out an easy winner.

 

No 1       Mick Albee v Matt Thompson                    Won 3/2

The game was nip and tuck on the front 9 holes but Mick never gave his opponent an inch over the last 9 holes to run out what appears to be an easy victory.

All games were played in good spirit and the course was in excellent condition and is a credit to Dean and his merry men.

 

 

Round  2-May 23rd 2021

 

Lakeside v Muirfield @ Muirfield

The team were brought back to earth at Muirfield this week with a 5-3 loss though 6 of the matches went down to the 18th Hole and Lakeside are currently second place in the section with a crucial away game against the unbeaten Glenmore side this coming Sunday.

 

No 8    Harry Callaghan v Nigel Black        Lost 1 down

Harry got off to a slow start and was 4 down at the turn and fought back to be 1 down after 17 holes but was unable to win the last hole.

 

No 7    Greg Fish v Graeme Matthews       Won 4/2

Greg went up early in the match and never allowed his opponent back into the match and ran out a easy winner

 

No 6    Phil Lockyer v Ian Bamford             Won 1 up

Another hard fought match for Phil with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match with Phil 1 up playing the 18th but he managed to get up and down on the last to half the hole and win the match.

 

No 5    Stephen Huffadine  v Daeyoun Lim                        Lost 1 down

The lead changed hands many times during this match neither player giving an inch, Stephen played the 18th I down and had a 15 foot birdie putt to square the match but missed on the high side.

 

No 4    Steve Spink v Peter Fancus                        Lost 2/1

Another hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Stephen played the 17th hole poorly and was unable to recover.

 

No 3    Ivo Da Silva v  Michael Ebsworth               Lost 1 down

Another hard fought match with neither player able to gain a lead  Ivo opponent chipping in on 2 holes and sinking 2 x 30 foot putts when Ivo appeared to have control on the hole.

 

No 2    Ricky Timms v Glenn Willard                      Halved

A completely different game from last week with Ricky having trouble finding the fairways on the tree lined Muirfield course, standing on the 18th tee the match was all square Ricky hit his drive onto the 17th fairway and the match appeared to be over but a sensational shot by Ricky to 6 foot and sink the putt to birdie the hole and square the match.

 

No 1    Mick Albee v Matt Thompson                     Halved

A really hard fought match with neither player giving in and the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match and after 18 holes the players couldn’t be split for a well deserved half for both players

 

Round -3 May 30th 2021

 

Lakeside v Glenmore @ Glenmore

The team lost 6 ½ to 1 ½ to a strong Glenmore side who are now favourites to win the Division, most of the Lakeside players were unable to come to terms with the large undulating slopes on the Glenmore greens. Next game Glenmore at Lakeside tee off 11.45am.

 

No 8     Greg Fish v John Findlayson               Lost 2/1

A hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Greg played the 16th hole poorly allowing his opponent what appears to be a comfortable win.

 

No 7     Phil Lockyer  v Keith Clark                              Halved  

Another hard fought match for Phil  with neither player giving a inch and the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match and after 18 holes the players couldn’t be spilt for a well deserved half for both players.

 

No 6     Stephen Huffadine  v Paul Groves                   Lost 5/3

Stephen had trouble putting on the Glenmore greens and his opponent had control of this game all day and ran out an easy winner

 

No 5     Steve Spink v Mark Winter                               Lost 6/4

Steve ran into the hot player of the opposition and quickly went 4 down after 6 holes, with his opponent chipping in on 2 holes and sinking 2 X 30 foot putts when Steve appeared to have control of the hole and was never able to recover.

Another slow start for Harry who was again 3 down at the turn but fought back to be 1 down after 17 holes but was unable to win the last hole.

The game was nip and tuck all day with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but again poor putting from Ivo at critical stages of the match allowed his opponent the win.

 

No 2     Ricky Timms v Steve Hunt                               Lost 4/3

The game was nip and tuck all day with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Ricky played the 13th and 14th holes poorly allowing his opponent to what appears to be a comfortable win.

 

No 1     Mick Albee v Andrew Robb                              Won 5/4

Mick got off to a quick start and went 3 up after 6 and had control of this game all day and ran out an easy winner

 

 

Round 4 – 6th June 2021

Lakeside v Glenmore @ Lakeside

What a difference a week makes the team had a strong 5 ½ to 2 ½ win over the divisions leaders to open the race for the no 1 spot wide open. Next game Windsor at Richmond tee off 11.45am.

A hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Ivo won the 14th and 15th holes to go 2 up and held on for what appears to be a comfortable win.

 

No 3     Ricky Timms v  Jef Shearim                            Lost 2/1

The game was nip and tuck all day with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but again poor shot decisions by Ricky at critical stages of the match allowed his opponent the win.

 

No 2     Stephen Huffadine v Steve Hunt                      Lost 2/1

Stephen took control of this match early and went quickly went 2 up but by the turn Stephen was 1 down and with neither player giving an inch over the closing holes but a poor drive on the 17th by Stephen allowed his opponent to win the hole and the match in a entertaining match.

 

No 1     Mick Albee v John Mills                                   Won 3/2

A hard fought match with Mick gaining the lead early and never allowed his opponent a chance running out an easy winner.

All games were played in good spirit and both sides were very happy with the course presented on the day by Dean and his merry men.

 

Round 6 –  June 20th 2021

Lakeside v Windsor @ Lakeside

Lakeside won the last game of the season 7 1/2 to 1/2 over a fighting Windsor team who have not played a lot of golf with their course still out of play due to the floods earlier in the year. Glenmore take top spot and advance to the next stage but Lakeside only 1 game behind.  Next game  2022

 

No 8     Paul Dawson v Stephen Garrick                      Won 7/5

Paul got off to a quick start with birdies on the first 3 holes and had control of this game all day and ran out an easy winner

 

No 7     Greg Fish v John Whitmore                             Won 4/3  

Greg again got off to a quick start and went 3 up after 7; he then lost 3 holes in a row but quickly recovered to win the next four holes to run out an easy

winner.

No 6     Steve Spink v Peter O’Reilly                            Halved

A hard fought match with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match and went down the 18 hole with Steve 1 down, Steve sank an 8 foot birdie putt on the last to win the hole and square the match.

 

No 5     Phil Lockyer v Karl Fretwell                             Won 4/2

A hard fought match with Phil gaining the lead early and never allowed his opponent a chance running out an easy winner.

 

No 4     Harry Callaghan v Gary Chapman                    Won 5/4

Harry had control of this game all day and ran out a easy winner

 

No 3     Ricky Timms v  Ash Jurd                                 Won 5/4

A hard fought match with Ricky gaining the lead early and never allowed his opponent a chance running out an easy winner.

 

No 2     Ivo Da Silva v Dave Osborne                            Won 3/1

The game was nip and tuck all day with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Ivo played the closing holes brilliantly which his opponent couldn’t match and ran out what appears to be a comfortable win.

 

No 1     Mick Albee v Bill Oldfield                                 Won 2/1

The game was nip and tuck all day with the lead changing hands numerous times throughout the match but Mick played the 16th and 17th holes extremely well to go 2 up and hold.

The Lakeside course again received 12mm of rain on the days before the match which softened the greens which allowed all players to play to some tough pins in the knowledge that their shots would stick, once again Dean and his merry men presented a course to be proud off.

Again all games were played in good spirit.
